Bronchial Asthma

Bronchial Asthma is a reversible airway disease characterized by narrowing of wind pipe and mucous plugging causing breathlessness and coughing. Such tendencies are genetically determined and runs in families.

Patient will present with episodic breathlessness with wheezing which has seasonal variation. They have associated other allergic symptoms like running nose, acidity, sinusitis and skin allergies.

Diagnosis of asthma is based on clinical history, simple blood test and pulmonary function test.

Treatment is with simple inhaler and sometimes with some tablets.

Aim of asthma treatment is to give normal life to patient, miminse hospital visits and hospitalization.

Asthmatics can run, swim, trek and do all activities like other individuals.
